This is the primer for all actors. I started reading Stanislavski's books when I was at Harding. And funny enough, I actually wrote a paper AGAINST the techniques listed in this very same book... Needless to say, I was stupid then. An Actor Prepares is the first book in a three part "ABC of Acting" series. And remember, Stanislavski himself said that this is a work in progress and an ever-changing work at that. Highly Recommended!
When I was interested in becoming an actor for the screen, this was the first book I picked up. Very helpful and full of great info. There are many differences between a stage and screen actor, and Acting For The Camera will show you most of them. Definitely a good buy.
When you are starting out, you need to know... a lot! And this book has it all. It truly is an "insider's" guide to the industry. How to get an agent. Get your headshots done right the first time. Learn how to network with other actors. Buy it and learn!
I have said it once and I will say it until the day I die. "Acting" in the Industry is a Business and you, the professional actor, should treat it that way. Get the stars out of your eyes and focus on your goals. Although this book tends to focus more on the New York theatre scene, the ideas and information passed down from Brian O'Neil are solid for any career in acting. ©1996-2005 The Trained Actor™ |
