![]() Another passion of mine is stage combat. This is a true art form that takes dedication and serious training. There is a certain thrill that runs through my body when I see the words They Fight in a script. Ever since I picked up steel back in college, I have never been the same. So far I have only read one book on this list, as they are fairly recent publishings. Remember there is no substitute for training with a qualified instructor. Check out the first one on my list... Also below are a few links that may interest you, enjoy. Stage Combat
Swashbuckling: The Art of Stage Combat and Theatrical Swordplay can go a long way toward preparing you for such instruction, then help you remember and perfect the techniques you've learned. Unique in its field, Swashbuckling is the only book that covers weaponry, warm-up exercises, unarmed combat, foot-work, defense and attack techniques, and working with Fight Directors in detail. It can also do things many instructors can't due to lack of time or resources.
Fight Directing for the Theatre is the most comprehensive study of its kind. Authored by professional fight director J. Allen Suddeth, all the aspects of brawn, brawl, and broadswords are covered. Directors, performers, stage managers, teachers, prop builders, and stage fight directors will find thousands of useful facts in this book. Fight Directing for the Theatre covers the "how to" of fight directing, demystifying the process, and suggests a step-by-step method of working with performers and designers in the creation of safe fight choreography. for more information... ©1996-2005 The Trained Actor™ |
